Weston Turville U3A Newsletter – October 2014

Wt Church gateIt is not often I start a newsletter with sad news, but this is one of those times. It is with deep regret that I have to inform you of the sudden death of Maureen Absalom, who died this week, Tuesday 14th October, after a fall from a cliff in Dorset whilst on a walking holiday. Maureen was a very popular U3A member who had a happy outlook on life and was always willing to take on new challenges. Maureen was an active member of several groups including garden visits, walking and extreme visits. Funeral arrangements have not yet been confirmed as her daughter has only just flown in from America. I will update you when more details are known. Maureen leaves a son and a daughter and we send our condolences to her family and to her close friends Lynda and Ian Mackay and Helen McCuskie.

Weston Turville U3A Newsletter – January 2014

Wt Church gateOh I am sooooooo excited as 01I have proof that at least a few of you actually read the newsletter! As a result of my pleas last month we have had some good results: we have some prospective holidays to tell you about, we have had several people want to join the committee (so I now have to look up the rules about voting and elections). The trip to the Globe theatre next week is now oversubscribed and the only disappointment is no one is prepared to step forward and help organise the visiting churches group. This is sad because it was a popular group

Weston Turville U3A Newsletter – September 2012

ejectIt will soon be October, which is the second autumn month. It is the time for the countryside to start its annual hibernation, when English apples are abundant, the weather turns a bit iffy and the nights draw in. You depressed yet? Well, how about if I tell you the shops are putting their Christmas displays out, there are only 94 days (at the time of writing) to the big event….and you will have to listen to festive carols for most of them! The good news is that there are still things going on between now and Christmas and adventures for you to have…so please do not slit your throats just yet. Maybe you can join one of the U3A activities you have not yet experienced and meet new friends, laugh, and enjoy the distraction form the ‘festive’ hype all around. Of course

I thought that since the school holidays are upon us and a lot of members were doing extra duties in the child minding department, I would find a suitable photo which encompasses doting grandparents let loose on unsuspecting offspring….how did I do?

On a more serious note, I was sent this warning by email the other day which, I personally, am taking very seriously: A Warning about Shampoo. Don’t wash your hair in the shower. It involves the shampoo
