Weston Turville U3A Newsletter – March 2015

Wt Church gateSuperstitions surrounding solar eclipses still exist today. Many people believe that solar eclipses can be a dangerous to pregnant women and their unborn child. In India, some people fast during a solar eclipse because they believe that any food cooked during the time will be poisonous, and in Italy it is believed that flowers planted during a solar eclipse are more colourful than those planted at other times of the year. A solar eclipse can only happen at new moon, when the moon directly blocks sight of the sun from certain places in the world. Wt Church gateSome of us had a great day out with the extreme visits trip to Goodwood where we learnt how to control a skid in both an automatic and manual car. Adrian will say more later: but I wanted to say it was a tad windy on the airfield and to try and get this across to you, I have attached a photo of Helen’s hair moving. Those of you who know Helen will know that

censored carrotsI was gardening in my veg plot the other day and dug up my remaining carrots. Because I am not a good gardener I had accidentally fertilised the carrot bed prior to planting. As a result my remaining carrots were very funny shapes. I took some photos on my new (ish) mobile phone of the deformed specimens and discovered that my mobile has a puritanical streak and suffers from veggie-ism. It censored my
