Happy Easter everyone. I was fortunate enough not to have to dress up like a chicken to get an Easter egg….were you?
The next meeting is our AGM. It will be as brief as possible so that it does not overrun the meeting but we have certain formalities to attend to. As you are aware I am standing down as Chairman having done nearly 4 years. I wish to thank you for your kind comments and I am very glad to have “led” such a brilliant group of people for so long. Please trust me once more: this U3A will go on and you will not

Please read on and
stop sighing: we have to have them and they have to follow a certain format. Those people who have attended previous ones will know that I try to keep them brief, succinct and concise. Those people who have read this last sentence will know that all three adjectives are synonyms: that is to show you how quick it will be!

Oh I am sooooooo excited as
I have proof that at least a few of you actually read the newsletter! As a result of my pleas last month we have had some good results: we have some prospective holidays to tell you about, we have had several people want to join the committee (so I now have to look up the rules about voting and elections). The trip to the Globe theatre next week is now oversubscribed and the only disappointment is no one is prepared to step forward and help organise the visiting churches group. This is sad because it was a popular group

What can we say? Much fun seems to be being had by all – shame you were not there!

I was going to wish you all a Happy New Year but it seems so long ago that I have forgotten all about it! January is also running out so I thought I would tell you about February instead… Did you know that Candlemas is celebrated on 2nd February? This is because it is based on an ancient festival which celebrates the midpoint of winter: it being halfway between the shortest day and the spring equinox. Some of us had a great day out with the extreme visits trip to Goodwood where we learnt how to control a skid in both an automatic and manual car. Adrian will say more later: but I wanted to say it was a tad windy on the airfield and to try and get this across to you, I have attached a photo of Helen’s hair moving. Those of you who know Helen will know that

I was gardening in my veg plot the other day and dug up my remaining carrots. Because I am not a good gardener I had accidentally fertilised the carrot bed prior to planting. As a result my remaining carrots were very funny shapes. I took some photos on my new (ish) mobile phone of the deformed specimens and discovered that my mobile has a puritanical streak and suffers from veggie-ism. It censored my

It will soon be October, which is the second autumn month. It is the time for the countryside to start its annual hibernation, when English apples are abundant, the weather turns a bit iffy and the nights draw in. You depressed yet? Well, how about if I tell you the shops are putting their Christmas displays out, there are only 94 days (at the time of writing) to the big event….and you will have to listen to festive carols for most of them! The good news is that there are still things going on between now and Christmas and adventures for you to have…so please do not slit your throats just yet. Maybe you can join one of the U3A activities you have not yet experienced and meet new friends, laugh, and enjoy the distraction form the ‘festive’ hype all around. Of course
