Shed Security

Thames Valley Alert

As thefts from garden sheds and outbuildings continue to be reported across the Vale, please take a moment to review the security of your own buildings.

The attachments (below), give some good tips and advice on increasing the security of sheds, garages and outbuilding.  The harder it is for a potential criminal to break in, the more likely they are to not try in the first place.

  • Many security measure cost little or no money, such as:-Shed alarms – which can be purchased from DIY stores and garden centres and emit a loud noise if the padlock is tampered with.
  • Anti–tamper screws – these can used on doors and hinges etc and prevent the screws from being undone.
  • Property mark your tools and equipment and make sure larger items are locked to something solid inside the building.  Tools that have been marked (with your postcode and house number) are harder for thieves to sell on and are identifiable as yours if they are stolen.
  • If you see anything suspicious please call the Police (at the time it is happening), with a description of them, along with details of any vehicle they may be using, especially the registration number.  Don’t leave it to someone else to make the call – you could be the only witness.

There are many more security tips and information in the following attachments.  Please have a look and do whatever you can to make life hard for potential criminals.
